OK, let me get this straight [sic]. Macy’s takes a song from the musical Rent, originally written to be sung at the funeral of a gay non-white drag queen, from a show about the East Village being gentrified and prettified and de-soulified, and turns it into a paean to shopping in which there are zip, zilch, zero same-sex couples and the ending is a blond lady in her wedding dress tauntingly waggles her ring finger at the camera. HELLO, DISCONNECT MUCH, MACY’S??
Good god.
Great catch, Marjorie.
