I love Re/Dress, NYC’s only size 12+ vintage and resale shop, and I loved doing this piece with Deb Malkin, the proprietress. The Tablet audio/video team rocked it out. I do wish we’d had enough time to shoot pictures over several days or weeks so we could show a trunk show, a zine party, a class, a book reading…I worry that the piece is a little too marketing-y/sell-y, whereas I wanted to show the political aspects of celebrating fat beauty and outsider-dom in general. And I wish we could have shown more of Deb’s alt-beauteous staff. But hey, gotta go with the Voltaire: Le mieux est l’ennemi du bien. The best is the enemy of the good. This piece is good…enough.
Great article, great shop, great women.
And most importantly, great fashion!!!
Won’t a store like that just encourage fat people to be fashionable?
Dude! I can’t believe people are still using the old-give-them-plus-size-and-they-will-eat-twinkies argument. It doesn’t fly with birth control or with fashion. Why are people eedjits?
I love this store. I love that it’s in the East Village. It’s like it was put there Just For You! The opposite of if you build it they will come. Something like that. I need more coffee.
you do need more coffee! it’s in brooklyn. 🙂
So, you will come to Brooklyn for clothing. For ice skating. For countless other things. But, ahem, when have you visited the homestead last?
Now I am very embarrassed. But I hadn’t listened to the thing yet; Denbele grabbing on to me so I only read the blurb and the comments.
Do you also go to Brooklyn for your superhero supplies? A friend of mine recommended I pop into the Brooklyn Superhero Supply Company during my last trip and I found everything I needed there.
Actually, I was kinda surprised I didn’t bump into you there as well 😉
