In Tablet magazine these week I channel Clement Greenberg and talk about how we talk about art — in this case, our children’s art. I would like to make clear that I think this painting of Maxie’s is TOTALLY FABULOUS. I love the way the puppet-y thing looks like it’s popping up out of the corner of the picture and I would not have used the word “mediocre” that is in the deck but I understand the need for an enticing head and deck and since I called the piece “Homemade Esthetics” which is pretty pretentious and boring I can’t really complain if the editors need to sex up the deck.
