I see that a piece of mine from the March 2011 issue of Self is now online, though it is not listed in Self’s archive of stuff I’ve written for the magazine. I have no idea when it was put up. (Or why no one is monitoring the comments — oy.) The piece is about authenticity — what it means to be an authentic person and how to learn to tune in to your true internal voice.
At some point I should search for other Self stories. I have a piece in the April 2011 issue as well, about how issues surrounding money  (having it, not having it, spending it, choosing not to spend it) can strain friendships, and on how you can manage those pitfalls. For this one, I worked with the wonderful financial therapist Amanda Clayman — I love collaborating with her.  Check it out next time you get your hair or nails done!
Believe it or not, this is the first time I’ve ever commented on a website! Unfortunately, it has nothing to do with your current post. I was dismayed to find that I’d grabbed from the library an issue of Budget Traveller I’d read before. I decided to take the opp anyway for a pre-dinner glass of wine and quick read. I found your article about One House, Ten Travelers, and it reminded me so much of where I was in the fall of ’09. First, I loved the piece. I thought your writing was entertaining and honest. Second, it inspired me to try my hand at travel writing. While I haven’t been published in any national magazines, I’ve gotten picked up by a chain of newspapers across Canada since starting one year ago. Thanks so much for providing the inspiration!
Jody, so awesome! Congrats!
