I’m about to head to the library to return the gazillion children’s and YA books I’ve read about Israeli and Palestinian kids. But first, I thought I’d take a quick look at the reviews they’ve gotten on Goodreads, especially given how a Goodreads reviewer was quoted out of context to support banning one of the books. I did an actual spit-take (coffee on the monitor!) when I read this kid’s review of Three Wishes: Palestinian and Israeli Children Speak — a book the Canadian Jewish Congress sought to remove from the Ontario Library Association’s recommended reading list:
“This book is so sad, but it makes you realize what’s happening to children in Pakistan and Israel. This book makes you appreciate your life here in Canada.”
Buh. I’m going to use that review to prove that this book turns Canadian youths into people with poor reading comprehension and about as much cluefulness about geography as Kate Gosselin has about dancing.
